The park's name carries strong historical significance. It was built on the site where the Banja Luka High Treason Trial took place during the First World War, one of the most important political trials of that period. More than 160 Serbs were accused of high treason, and several were sentenced to death. In memory of the victims of this trial, the park was named Liberation Park, preserving the legacy of their struggle for freedom. Today, it is not only a place for relaxation but also a symbol of historical remembrance, cultural heritage, and the development of a modern urban space that enriches Banja Luka's cultural and tourist offer.
