The Church of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos, located on Vojvoda Stepa Stepanović Boulevard in Banja Luka, is a significant Orthodox church known for its stunning architecture and peaceful atmosphere.


In the past, there was a church on this site whose foundations were consecrated on Mark’s Day in 1885. Legend has it that a small wooden chapel once stood in Rebrovac, originally located near the Crkvena River. When rumors spread that enemies planned to set it on fire, devoted Christians moved it overnight to the right bank of the Vrbas River, where it remained until 1876, when it was burned down. A new church was built on the foundations of the old one and consecrated in 1889.

The Church of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos, located on Vojvoda Stepa Stepanović Boulevard in Banja Luka, is a significant Orthodox church known for its stunning architecture and peaceful atmosphere.

The newly built church was situated in a beautiful spot near the Vrbas River, a quarter-hour away from the town. It was 21 meters long, 11 meters wide, and 9 meters high up to the roof. The bell tower, made of fired brick, stood 28 meters tall with a cross on top and was four meters wide on each side. The church’s roof was covered with baked tiles, and the entire construction cost 14,000 forints.


The present church was built in 1989, and its patron saint’s day, the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos, is celebrated on the feast of the Little Dormition.
